17 May Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh at the Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces Summit

Both Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh were at Stonewall’s inaugural Rainbow Laces Summit hosted by Manchester United Football Club on Monday 15 May.

It’s the definitive event on promoting lesbian, gay, bi and trans inclusion in sport. The event gain insights into sports fans’ attitudes and experiences of anti-LGBT abuse and discovers practical ideas to make sporting environments inclusive for all LGBT people.

In an article based on the Premier League trying to crackdown on homophobic abuse Sky Sports’ Bryan Swanson and Jon Holmes shared what Kate and Helen had said at the summit:

“It’s the most incredible thing to see a youngster come in and find their difference accepted and see them bloom,” said Kate, the most capped female hockey player in her country’s history.

“Being yourself is the best thing you can do, whatever yourself is,” added Helen, the youngest ever women to represent GB hockey at an Olympics and the other half of the first same-sex married couple to win an Olympic medal playing in the same team.
